This policy describes what Taipei Tourism Guide (www.taipeitourism.org) does with information about the people who visit it. It describes what is running on the site today, not what might run on it one day. When that changes, this page changes with it, and the date above moves.
The short version
You can read every guide on this site without giving us anything. We do not ask you to register, we do not run a newsletter, and we do not sell or rent data about you to anybody. The only information we hold that could identify you is what you type into the contact form, and the only thing we do with it is reply.
Information you give us deliberately
The contact page carries a form asking for your name, email address, a subject line and a message. Sending it is entirely your choice, and nothing on the site depends on it.
What you submit is stored in this site’s database and emailed to the site operator so it can be read and answered. Your email address is used to reply to you and for nothing else — it is not added to any mailing list, not used for marketing, and not passed to any third party. Messages are kept while they are useful, typically no more than two years, and deleted after that. If you would rather your message and address were deleted sooner, ask, and they will be.
The form uses an anti-spam check and a hidden honeypot field to filter automated submissions. Neither tracks you across the web.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like every website, this one runs on a web server that records requests: an IP address, the time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser’s user-agent string. These logs are kept by the hosting provider for security and troubleshooting and are not used to build a profile of you.
Google Analytics 4. This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-PKEV2EZSVN) to understand which guides get read, how people arrive, and roughly where in the world they are. It sets cookies in your browser and sends information to Google, including a truncated IP address, the pages you view and basic device and browser details. It is used in aggregate — we look at whether the Jiufen guide is being read, not at what any individual did. We do not connect analytics data to anything you send through the contact form.
Google’s own description of how it handles this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can prevent Google Analytics entirely with Google’s browser opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by blocking cookies as described below.
Google Search Console. This site is verified in Search Console, which reports how it performs in Google Search. It shows us aggregated search queries and click counts. It does not identify individual visitors and sets no cookies on this site.
Cookies
The cookies set on this site are those described above from Google Analytics, plus WordPress’s own functional cookies, which only appear if the site operator signs in to the administration area. Ordinary readers are not asked to log in and are not given a login cookie.
Every current browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here.
Comments
Comments are closed across this site and no comment form is displayed on any page. No comment data is being collected from visitors.
Advertising
To be plain about it: at the date above, this site displays no advertising. There is no ad code on these pages, and no advertising cookies are set by us. There are no sponsored placements either — nobody pays to appear in these guides. The site does earn a commission on bookings made through its outbound booking links, which is described under “Booking links and commission” below.
We intend to apply to display advertising through Google AdSense so the guides can stay free to read. If that is approved and advertising goes live, this section will be rewritten before the first ad appears, to set out what third-party advertising cookies are used, that Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites, and how to opt out through Google’s Ads Settings at google.com/settings/ads. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland will be shown a consent notice before any advertising cookie is set. Until that update happens, take this section at face value: there are no ads.
Booking links and commission
Where a guide links out to somewhere you can book, that link is routed through Stay22, a booking partner that adds commission tracking to it automatically. If you book after following one, the provider pays us a commission. The price you pay is the same either way, and it never affects what we recommend. There is more detail on the affiliate disclosure page.
Stay22 runs a script on this site that rewrites those links and identifies your device so a booking can be credited to us. It does this using characteristics of your browser and device rather than a cookie, and it stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage. It is treated as a marketing service here, so it does not load until you allow marketing in the cookie settings, and refusing does not limit what you can read here.
Images and third-party content
Photographs on this site are hosted on this site’s own server, not hot-linked from elsewhere, so viewing a guide does not send a request to a third-party image host. Where a guide links out to a booking platform, a government page or a venue’s own website, that site’s privacy policy governs what happens once you follow the link. We have no control over and take no responsibility for how other sites handle your data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict how it is processed, and to receive a copy of it. In practice the only personal data we are likely to hold is a contact form message, and we will delete it on request without argument.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, our legal basis for handling contact form submissions is legitimate interest — you wrote to us and we are replying. For analytics, we rely on legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site usage; you can opt out using the methods above.
To exercise any of this, or to complain about how your data has been handled, write in through the contact page. If you are not satisfied with the response you have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This is a travel resource written for adults planning trips, including the guides about visiting Taipei with children, which are addressed to the parents. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and it will be deleted.
Security and international transfers
The site is served over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and the server is encrypted. Contact form submissions are stored on the hosting provider’s servers and delivered by email. Google Analytics data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards Google describes in its own policies. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
When something material changes — a new analytics tool, the arrival of advertising — this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes are made here before the change goes live on the site, not afterwards.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or about data we hold, go through the contact page, which reaches the person responsible for this site directly.
